My In-Laws Keep Leaving Me Out of Dinners, So I Taught Them a Lesson
I (F26) recently went on a family trip with my in-laws, and things went downhill quickly. My mother-in-law always thinks I’m “ignorant” and “uncultured” because I come from a lower-class family. She’s convinced I have no manners.
When we arrived at the hotel, my husband suddenly mentioned a fancy dinner his family had planned. When I asked why I wasn’t invited, he said his mom assumed I “wouldn’t know how to handle the food” or act properly at such a place. So, they decided it would be better if I stayed at the hotel and ate there instead.
Instead of arguing, I let him leave and quietly packed my bags. I caught the first flight home, determined to remove myself from the situation.
My husband was furious when he realized I had left. He called me nonstop, accusing me of being “unreasonable and ungrateful” and said I embarrassed him in front of his family. According to him, he had “begged me to join the trip.” But the damage was already done.
When he came home, he gave me the silent treatment, making it clear he was still angry. His family didn’t hold back either, posting indirect comments about me on Facebook. The trip was supposed to bring us closer, but instead, it highlighted the tension between me and my in-laws, and now, I’m not sure how to fix it.
