Kate Middleton was ‘desperately unhappy’ and felt William ‘cheapened her image’ with their split in 2007
The Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate Middleton, are one of the world’s most admired couples. Their relationship began as friends while studying at the University of St. Andrews. Kate recalled their awkward first meeting, saying she “flushed bright crimson and ran away.”
Initially just friends, their bond deepened when Kate caught William’s eye during a fashion show. “A switch had been flicked,” said royal correspondent Katie Nicholl, marking a turning point in their relationship. William reflected, “We were friends for over a year at first… we just spent more time together.”
In 2007, the couple briefly broke up, which they later said allowed them to “find themselves.” However, Kate was upset by William’s partying, feeling it was “cheapening her image.” Harsh words were exchanged, but they eventually reconciled in 2008.
William proposed in 2010, and they married in 2011. Now, with over a decade of marriage, they continue to be deeply in love.
